How mobile phones affect our health

How mobile phones affect our health

Are you aware of the potential dangers caused by using your phone every day? Mobile phones emit radio waves that adversely affect human health. This leads to health issues such as cancer, heart disease, infertility, memory problems, obesity, sleep disorders, dementia, etc. These are some of the most common health problems caused by cellphones today.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says that smartphones have become an integral part of life for billions of people around the world. In 2016, global smartphone sales reached 696 million units, representing nearly 50% growth over 2015.

Mobile phones are everywhere. They are becoming an essential part of daily life, but their constant presence has also led to several serious health hazards. How does your phone affect your health? Let us take a look at these top cellphone risks.

1. Mobile phone radiation affects brain activity and blood flow

A study published in June 2017 in the journal Frontiers in Cellular Neuroscience suggests that electromagnetic radiation emitted from mobile devices could cause damage to human brains.

The scientists showed, using MRI scans, that children exposed to radio waves caused their brains to have slower activity than those who had not been exposed. In adults, exposure was shown to reduce blood flow in the hippocampus, a region of the brain linked to learning and memory.

 2. Excessive use of smartphones and tablets may lead to insomnia

In 2016, French researchers found that people who were constantly glued to their smartphones suffered from sleep deprivation. Their study, published in the Lancet Oncology journal, suggested that smartphone use causes a higher risk of suffering from insomnia – sometimes called hyper insomnia in medical terms.

 3. Smartphones & Wi-Fi emit dangerous amounts of low-frequency EMF

According to some studies, wireless technology emits pulsed magnetic fields that have potential health effects, especially for pregnant women and young children. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), these fields may interfere with the body's natural electrical signals causing disruptions in communication between cells and affecting normal cellular functions.

 4. Cellphone Use Linked to Brain Cancer in Children

Another study conducted by the American Academy of Pediatrics in May 2018 concluded that children who spend several hours per day using smartphones or tablets have a greater chance of developing cancer later in life.

Children aged 9 to 11 years old who spent over five hours using screens daily were twice as likely to develop certain types of cancers compared to children who did not use screens at all.

 5. Cellphones and laptops can increase the risk of infertility in men

Research suggests that high levels of exposure to microwave radiation emissions can disrupt sperm production, leading to lower fertility rates.

Researchers at the University of Washington School of Medicine conducted an experiment where they took semen samples from 19 volunteers and exposed them to various levels of EMF's. Exposure to cellphone radiation reduced male fertility by nearly 50 percent.
